Situated above our cheeseshop in Galway is the Wine Shop Upstairs. The shop has over one hundred wines, which we have selected following a number of tasting trips to Europe and with advice from Enrico Fantasia. Enrico, a chef and former restaurant owner, is a wine connoisseur whose knowledge and love of wine stems from running a wine bar and time spent with the wine producers themselves. The emphasis of the shop is on Italian wines, all selected exclusively for Sheridans, and we also have some excellent wines from France, Spain and Portugal. The wines are from well-established (some award-winning) producers as well as exciting wines from emerging young producers.

According to Enrico the Montepulciano D’Abruzzo “Colle Morino” 2002 F. lli Barba, a fruity medium-bodied elegant red, made by Roberto Cipresso, one of the most famous Italian winemakers, is definitely the best buy in the shop. Among other new wines in the shop is the Barolo “Vigna Del Gris” 1998 by Conterno-Fantino, one of the best producers of the new generation of Piedmontese wine makers, which is a wonderfully powerful and balanced wine from the beautiful estate overlooking Monforte D’Alba. The dry and fruity Tove’ 2001, made by one of the new young producers in the north east of Italy, Marco Cecchini, is a white wine with good body and acidity made from the grapes typical of the Friuli region. And a regular prize winner, the smooth and fruity Cava Agusti Torello Mata Brut Nature Gran Reserva 1999 is made using the traditional white cava grapes
